Hydroelectric Dam Efficiency Pays Off: A $250,000 Success Story

In Eastern Canada’s renewable energy sector, optimizing turbine efficiency is essential for maximizing clean power production and supporting sustainable operations. With this in mind, our client—tasked with rejuvenating an aging dam—recognized an opportunity to deliver even greater value by going beyond their original mandate. They set out to further optimize turbine efficiency by adding a new skid, aiming to provide extra benefits for their customers. However, without a reliable way to monitor water levels in the accumulator tank, the facility faced limited visibility into turbine performance and missed opportunities for improved maintenance and operational savings.

Turning Ideas into Tangible Results 

We kicked off the project with a focused meeting alongside the client’s engineering team. They shared a hand-drawn sketch of their ideal setup—a level measurement system for the accumulator tank. By listening carefully and collaborating closely, we were able to transform their vision into a practical, high-performance solution. 

Working in partnership with our factory network, we designed and delivered a Penberthy level gauge assembly, custom-built to the required length and mounting specifications. To ensure accurate, real-time monitoring, we integrated a magnetic level switch and transmitter—providing the client with the precise data they needed to optimize turbine operation. 

Flexibility, Added Value, and Client Empowerment 

Initially, the client ordered only the level gauge. As their needs evolved, we responded quickly—reengineering the solution and working with our factory partners to secure competitive pricing. The enhanced solution added $10,000 in value, enabling our client to deliver a comprehensive package worth $250,000 (including parts, commissioning, and service) to their end user.
