Seal oil system failure on hydrogen pump

A catastrophic failure of the seal oil system on a hydrogen pump created an urgent situation at a customer site where the pump was critical to ongoing operations. Running the seals dry could have caused significant damage and potentially required full seal replacement.

The customer had no way to test the flow to determine the extent of the damage. The only alternative was to pull the seals apart and inspect them an approach that would have required a minimum of two weeks of work, driving major downtime, labor demands, and repair costs.
