Working at Laurentide

As globalization makes headlines, a passionate team of professionals focuses on the success of local industries.

The words « local purchase » usually evokes artisanal goods or organic produce from the farmer’s market.

With this in mind, it’s easy to forget Eastern Canada’s rich industrial ecosystem: from extracting and transforming raw materials to producing food, beverages and consumer goods, millions of people work every day to create a wide offering that is very much local.

At Laurentide Controls, this ecosystem is what drives us every day, moved by our purpose to help industry thrive in Eastern Canada. We asked members of our team to tell us what this means for them.

A critical contribution to industries

According to Stéphane Tremblay, Director of Sales: "Head offices invest in local plants based on how efficient, safe and profitable they are. Of course, our abundance of natural resources and clean energy make Eastern Canada attractive to companies. However, these resources must be exploited in a way that respects both the workers and the environment. If an incident happens, that plant’s growth will be hindered, and foreign investments will go elsewhere."

"We help our clients to create a vision of where they want to go", he continues, "then we determine the best technology to achieve their goals and ensure that this technology is actually used to achieve the plant’s potential. Our creativity generates solutions that allow us to innovate and help our customers protect their employees while getting the most potential out of their resources. Their image will improve, of course, but so will their productivity. If they prosper, so will the collectivity."

How a plant fits into its community, as a corporate citizen and as an employer, is an essential part of Laurentide’s mission.

Adegilns Longang, Specialized Engineer, explains: "I help our clients get the most out of their process without sacrificing the safety of their people, their equipment and their environment. It is important to me that customers are not forced to compromise on the safety of their plant in order to maximize their performance. My role is to find solutions to safety issues, more specifically those caused by very high/low pressure, that can arise in a plant during its operation or during expansion projects."

Curiosity and creativity help our teams solve tough challenges.

These qualities also motivate employees in the day-to-day. Pascal Tapin, Inside Sales Supervisor, explains: "Every day, I strive to find what our customer may not necessarily think to ask, then propose a solution that will exceed their expectations."

Carl Thibault, Business Development Manager, agrees: "By maintaining a collaborative approach with our internal experts and external partners, we find complete solutions that align with our clients’ needs. Our focus on health and safety,  our technical expertise and our team’s eagerness to serve are a great source of motivation for me.”

Armel Chiza, Customer Success Specialist, adds: "I am proud of the quality of our services and the attention to our clients’ needs. Whether it’s reliability solutions, mechanical products or automation solutions, the field of expertise is vast and the opportunities to learn, numerous."

Helping the biggest names in industry also brings satisfaction to the team.

"What motivates me at Laurentide is to know that our clients are major companies in our country and that we contribute to their efficiency and success,” explains Martin Dupras, Logistics Coordinator. "Our work means that our customers receive the right product, in the right packaging, in an acceptable timeframe and at reasonable cost. We are an essential company for our province and country, and I know that our products are of excellent quality. Our small team does a lot!"

Alain Tardif, Reliability Technician, confirms: "My purpose is to support our clients efficiently during the improvement of rotating assets, to offer exemplary service to their demands both in reaction time and quality. With the right diagnostic tools and the right work methods, we build an atmosphere of trust. We work swiftly and well, without sacrificing quality."

For Abby Sherrard, Inside Sales Associate, Atlantic Controls division: "Our purpose of helping industry thrive in Eastern Canada is important to me as it ensures I work to the best of my ability every day to make our customers’ needs come first. Knowing that we can help our customers be more efficient in production and environmentally friendly is the reason I can thrive in my role day to day."

In the end, helping industry thrive in Eastern Canada is of personal importance for many at Laurentide.

Isabelle Picard, Marketing and Brand Specialist, is one of them. "I grew up in a small mining town, back when this sector was experiencing difficulties. I know all too well how such difficulties can impact a community. I get a lot of satisfaction from knowing that we help our plants produce better, in a more environmentally-friendly manner. Our solutions have a major impact on our clients’ consumption of resources and energy, which makes me proud!"

André Amyot, Director of Talent & Culture, adds: "My mother grew up in Gaspésie, on a street called avenue de la Fonderie – literally 'Foundry Avenue'. Back then, aside from the forestry industry, the foundry located just at the end of that avenue was the village's main employer. This foundry has been there for more than a century and today, it has nearly 300 local employees. The importance of local industries means a lot to me. We have a real, tangible impact on communities.”

Whether it’s reliability solutions, mechanical products or automation solutions, the field of expertise is vast and the opportunities to learn, numerous.
